Vivid light straw. Compelling fruit and mineral-driven aromas of silex, lavender and crushed rocks. Broad and pliant but classically dry, with a pronounced saline character and terrific juicy intensity to the stone fruit and orchard flavors. A tightly coiled wine that finishes chewy, bracing and long, with above-average complexity and a repeating saline touch. The grapes are soft-pressed; the wine is aged in 80 percent stainless steel and 20 percent partially new and used oak barriques while staying on the lees for one year (6.6 g/L total acidity and 3.5 g/L residual sugar). These grapes are picked in northwest-facing vineyards, for this part of the Marche is too hot to plant Verdicchio with a southern or eastern exposure. In my experience, Salmariano ages extremely well.”
